In this course, students will study the cellular anatomy of tissues of the body using stained, sectioned tissues and the light microscope. Four basic tissue types: epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous tissue will first be examined. With an emphasis on structure and function, tissues from each system of the body will then be studied: endocrine, circulatory, lymphoid, digestive, respiratory, skin, urinary, reproductive, sensory, nervous and organs associated with the digestive system. Some pathology slides, including cancerous tissues, will also be examined. Students interested in health careers, anatomy or cell biology will find this course interesting. Pre-requisites 1) BI 112N: Cells & Genes OR BI 211: Cellular Processes; and 2) BI 212: Genetics and Molecular Biology.
