In this course we will explore the various ways in which film is an expression of Italian social, political and aesthetic values and traditions. You will be challenged to examine, analyze, and reflect on a wide variety of Italian films. Topics covered will include the development of the film production industry in Italy, post-war social and political movements, neorealism, immigration, and more recent emerging themes in Italian film. Films of distinguished Italian directors such as Vittorio DeSica, Roberto Rossellini, Federico Fellini, Marco Tullio Giordana, among others will be viewed in the course.
